Shown on this slide are some of the terms related to USB-to-UART technology. A USB-to-UART bridge controller is a dedicated IC that provides a bridging solution between a USB port and a UART port. An active cable is a copper cable for data communication or transmission that uses embedded ICs to enhance the performance of the cable. A USB-to-UART active cable is an active cable that contains a USB-to-UART bridge controller IC. Similarly, a USB-to-RS232 active cable is an active cable that contains USB-to-UART bridge controller IC plus an RS232 level shifter IC. Cypress USB-Serial Configuration Utility is a software tool provided by Cypress to configure the device parameters of the Cypress USB-to-UART bridge controller.
