For embedded engineers, adding Wi-Fi can enhance an application’s functionality, particularly for cloud connectivity, but the complexity of integration often requires specialized knowledge that can increase costs and delay development. Microchip RNWF02 plug-and-play modules are low-power 2.4 GHz IEEE® 802.11b/g/n compliant, fully RF certified modules designed for IoT applications. These modules help simplify the development process by keeping projects on budget and schedule by eliminating the need for network stack knowledge or coding skills.

The RNWF02 modules are interfaced via a two-wire or four-wire UART interface with Microchip simple ASCII-based AT commands for easy integration into most applications. The host microcontroller can dynamically configure the modules with a few simple ASCII commands. The modules operate at a single supply voltage V_DD (3.3 V typical), and particular input-output (IO) pins support a voltage range of 1.8 V to 3.6 V by supplying the V_DDIO pin separately.

The RNWF02 modules are available with an onboard printed circuit board (PCB) antenna or U.FL connector for an external antenna and with or without Trust&Go CryptoAuthentication™ device.
