groov RIO® PLC Modules
Opto 22 PLC modules are ideal for IIoT and automation applications
Opto 22 groov RIO PLC modules improve remote I/O by offering over 200,000 unique, software-configurable I/O combinations in a single, compact, PoE-powered industrial package with web-based configuration, commissioning, flow logic software, and the ability to run simple control programs written in IEC 61131-3-compliant languages, plus support for multiple OT and IT protocols. (If the Ignition from Inductive Automation is used, see GRV-R7-MM2001-10, which includes Ignition Edge 8 pre-installed and has increased RAM and storage capacity to handle the requirements). groov Rio offers the flexibility to fit into IIoT projects, especially those that require I/O data acquisition or communications, traditional control systems, or to act as a stand alone control unit.
- The groov RIO can be used as an edge I/O unit (I/O for the IIoT), communicating data between field devices and data destinations:
- Connect directly to sensors, equipment, and systems to acquire data
- Push data directly to on-premises or cloud apps, databases, or other software, typically using the included Node-RED software
- Publish data to an MQTT broker
- Respond to Modbus/TCP requests for data
- Configure built-in I/O channels with browser-based groov management software, and configure self-contained PID loops (requires groov RIO firmware 3.0 or higher)
- Manage user accounts and permissions from a central location on the LDAP server (firmware 3.0 or higher)
- As a stand alone control unit running a control program built in any IEC-61131-3-compliant language:
- Download and install the Opto 22 CODESYS library package to the CODESYS development system
- Enable the onboard CODESYS runtime engine (requires purchase of GROOV-LIC-CRE-RIO)
- Configure I/O, develop the application, then download and run it on the groov RIO
- As a traditional remote I/O, configuring I/O through the control program:
- With a groov EPIC processor running a PAC control strategy, add groov RIO as an I/O unit
- With a groov EPIC processor running a CODESYS application, add a groov RIO as an Ethernet device
- With a custom control program through either the RIO OptoMMP memory map, its REST API, or through secure shell access (requires groov RIO firmware 3.0 or higher and a free GROOV-LIC-SHELL license), configure I/O in the custom program
