Shown here is a product overview of Cypress's 1.8 V 256 Mb KS256S product. Some target applications are advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and automotive instrument clusters, as well as automotive infotainment, communication equipment, and of course high performance consumer products. A few features of this device are that there is an operating voltage range of 1.70 V to 1.95 V. HyperFlash supports 100,000 endurance cycles minimum, 20 year data retention, typical initial access time is 96 ns, and what that means is that following the initial read access time, data is transferred on each clock edge. So for this particular product, the 1.8 V has a 166 MHz continuous data rate and 333 MBps of bandwidth. Additionally, it can support on chip ECC for single bit soft error correction. Three temperature ranges are also supported: industrial which is -40°C to +85°C, the industrial plus temperature range which is -42°C to +105°C, and then the extended temperature range which is -40°C to +125°C. In addition, all of these temperature ranges will support the ECQ 100 for the automotive grade. It is offered in the 24 ball BGA which is a 6 mm by 8 mm package. Datasheets for this product can be found on the Cypress website. The block diagram shown here shows that on the top there are 12 mandatory pins required for data transactions, 8 I/Os, the chip select, the clock, the differential clock pair, and the read write data strobe. The 3 pins at the bottom are reset, interrupt, and reset out, and these are optional signals which are not required for data transaction. These signals may or may not be supported on all different types of HyperBus controllers.
