Thin film does not distort the electrical signals as much as thick film. Third harmonic distortion is one of the methods used for testing signal distortion when signals go through a component. This slide here shows not only that thin film distorts signals less than thick film, but also that Susumu’s thin film resistors distort signals less than other thin film resistors.
