Many embedded systems consist of an FPGA and a 32 bit processor with memory and I/O to handle just about any task. The ability to program these for a specific requirement means that the hardware design can be used repeatedly and the specialized requirements are handled in the software to configure the system for the targeted application. With systems comprised of VLSI devices the overall power rail requirements can look very much like the graphic shown on this slide. This is actually a simple example of requirements, with five rails which must be slew rate controlled when powered up, powered down and each rail must be accurate within a guard band during line, load and transient conditions. The current demands are under 20A per rail. This is a common requirement and not difficult to implement with current technology.
