The CX3 reference design kit (RDK) is a fully functional USB camera that works on any PC. The RDK includes a 5-MP image sensor from Omnivision and is preloaded with CX3 firmware that supports USB video class. The kit includes RS232 and JTAG interface for firmware debugging and is fully powered by the USB cable. The Omnivision OV5640 image sensor module from e-con systems is capable of supporting HD video at different frame rates - 720p at 60 frames per second, 1080p at 30 frames per second, and for 5 MP at 15 frames per second. Software-wise, the kit includes a free video capture application called the e-CAMView for windows PC. The user can also use any built-in webcam application in the operating system including Windows, Mac OS, or Linux to display the captured image. The e-CAMView application comes with several sample camera control plug-ins including brightness, contrast, hue, and saturation.
