CX3 works with high-resolution image sensors either directly or through an ISP. For cameras using image sensor SOC, an image sensor with a built-in ISP as illustrated in example 1, the processed images can be sent to the host system through the CX3 directly. This is a common cost effective implementation used in many industrial cameras. For cameras using a dedicated ISP chip as illustrated in example 2, the ISP can be connected to the CX3 through CSI-2 interface to send a processed image to the host system. This implementation is common in machine vision, medical imaging, and advanced industrial cameras where pixel accuracy is critical for image analytics. Many high-end consumer cameras or video conference systems also use discrete ISP chips to offer advanced features such as wide dynamic range and zero shutter lag. No matter where the ISP resides, CX3 can fit in and deliver uncompressed images to the host system at USB SuperSpeed.
