Compared to the current industry-standard SIP package for converters of this type, as typified by the NKE series, the MEU1 package is approximately three quarters the length, the depth and height dimensions remaining more closely comparable to that of the NKE. The footprint of this package is just 6.1mm x 8.3mm, and the height is just under 8mm. The NKE and comparable products utilize a single in-line pin configuration with an industry standard pin pitch of 2.54mm to maintain the 1kV isolation rating. Shortening the package thus necessitated a different pin configuration, and the staggered, ZIF-style pin configuration allows the 1kV isolation rating for this class of products to be maintained. The staggered configuration also provides for improved immunity to shock and vibration.
