Shown here is a closer comparison of the package for current-generation 4-pin SIP products, as shown on the left, with the 4-pin ZIF-style package of the MEU1 series on the right. Starting with the product length, the industry-standard SIP package is 0.45 inches in length, or 11.48mm. The length of the MEU1’s package is just 0.327 inches, or 8.3mm, this is a 27% reduction in the overall length. Focusing on the top view, the depth of the two packages is nearly identical, the MEU1’s body being just 0.1mm deeper, or about 2% deeper than the SIP package. The product of the 27% decrease in length and 2% increase in depth yields a 26% reduction in the footprint. With a height of 0.313 inches, the MEU1’s body is somewhat taller than the 0.293 inch height of the SIP package. Taking the ratio of the two package volumes, the MEU1 occupies about 79% of the volume of the 4-pin SIP package; since both packages deliver 1W, the inverse of this gives us the increase in power density of about 26%. Lastly, the engineer presents a bottom view to highlight the difference in the pin configurations.
