The hibernation module manages removal and restoration of power to provide a means for reducing power consumption. When the processor and peripherals are idle, power can be completely removed with only the hibernation module remaining powered. The hibernation module is independently powered by an external battery or an auxiliary power supply and has its own independent clock domain. While in hibernation mode, power to core and other system peripherals can be restored upon assertion of an external signal, or at a certain time using RTC.
