RF-Synthesizers-Slide3
ST has a history of RF synthesizers and a roadmap for the future. They started with the STW8110x family of Integer-N synthesizers covering a range of frequencies from 625 MHz to 5 GHz, with a family of three ICs, targeted mainly at the cellular communication bands such as those for GSM, CDMA, PCS, WiMAX, LTE, etc. However, ST saw in the market a need for a wider band synthesizer that could address, in addition to the standard cellular communication bands, other applications beyond that and introduced the STW81200, which covers frequencies from 47 MHz to 6 GHz in a single device. The STW81200 uses both a Fractional and Integer-N architecture in order to provide good noise and spurious performance. A need to support even higher frequencies for certain markets was then seen, such as satellite communications and point-to-point wireless. Therefore, ST has introduced the STuW81300, which is discussed in more detail in this presentation. The STuW81300 is a Fractional and Integer-N architecture synthesizer which covers frequencies from 1.95 GHz to 16 GHz. Beyond these, ST is developing synthesizers and technology with the ability to function in the 60 GHz  and 84 GHz ranges. All of these devices are fabricated in ST’s silicon-germanium BiCMOS process to provide the best performance. The STW81200 is a flexible high-performance wideband RF, wide band (50 MHz to 6 GHz) Frac-Int-N RF synthesizer. Leading edge on phase noise performance is -135 dBc/Hz@1 MHz offset on a 4 GHz Carrier. It is fully integrated (PLL, VCOs, low noise regulators) and flexible with low power consumption/performance, dual RF outputs, crystal oscillator and more, in a 6x6 QFN package. The STuW81300 is a wide band RF synthesizer for microwave, covering the 1.925 GHz to 16 GHz range, with internal freq. doubler. Phase noise targets are -110 dBc/Hz @100 kHz on a 6 GHz carrier and -100 dBc/Hz @100 kHz on a 15.5 GHz carrier. Noise floor is <-147 dBc/Hz on the overall frequency range. It is available in a 6x6 QFN package.
